Exploring Barcelona & Tarragona: My Summer Holiday to Spain
Hi folks, this is the first post
for my blog and I've decided to start it off by writing about my summer holiday
to Spain. Despite it only being the start of October while I'm writing this,
summer has well and truly ended and autumn is very much in full swing. No more
clear skies and sunshine (not that we get much in Northern Ireland anyway)
instead it's grey clouds and rain. My holiday to Spain was a much-needed trip
away, my first year of university had just finished and I couldn't wait to go
abroad. The warm weather and sunshine allowed me to sit and relax by the pool
and truly enjoy myself, not to mention that while I was there, the Euros were
taking place and Spain managed to win it. It was an incredible experience just
sitting on the balcony of our apartment and listing to the people around us
erupt into pandemonium when they won.
Barcelona
Despite all the lounging by the pool I may have done, I did actually get a chance to explore the city of Barcelona and experience the amazing architecture and views the city had to offer. Whether it was La Sagrada Familia, the largest unfinished Catholic church in the world which began construction in 1882 or looking out over the coast to the Balearic Sea, Barcelona had tremendous views to explore. The day consisted of touring around Barcelona in a bus that dropped us off a different places for around an hour or so at each stop. This gave us time to adventure off by ourselves and explored the surrounding areas at our own pace. Whether it was the busy high street or the Olympic Stadium, Barcelona had a wide variety of different landmarks for everyone to explore.
Tarragona
Not only did I get a chance to visit Barcelona, I also visited Tarragona, a historic city with many buildings dating back to the Roman Empire. The Archaeological Ensemble of Tárraco, located in Tarragona, is inscribed as a UNESCO world heritage site with a number of different buildings and works of architecture dating back to the 3rd century BC. Some of these incredible pieces of work include a circus, a Roman theatre, an amphitheatre and a cemetery just to name a few.
Overall, I had a brilliant trip to Spain and could not recommend it more. The warm weather and scenic views make for a perfect trip away and with such a wide range of things to do and places to see, it truly has something for everyone!
Thanks for reading my blog folks, all the best!
